Plan the Ultimate Massachusetts Road Trip Stop at Battleship Cove

A battleship is in the water at Battleship Cove.

On the southern border of Massachusetts, 17 miles from Providence, RI., lies Mount Hope Bay and the town of Fall River. Within the Bay is a hidden gem of a historical museum- Battleship Cove. With two locations of naval history, this museum allows you to tour amazing ships, submarines and more.

What is Battleship Cove?

Battleship Cove is a museum with two locations in Fall River. The first location is the actual Cove, while the secondary location is the Maritime Museum located downtown.

Maritime Museum

The Maritime Museum offers self-guided tours through artifacts and interactive displays about the sea and those who dare sail her. The museum also has a large display about the Titanic.

Admission is included with your ticket to Battleship Cove, but hours are different. The museum is open Wednesday-Sunday from 10:00am-3:00pm. The last admission is allowed 1.5 hours before close. It is located at-

and is a two minute walk from the Cove.

Your tickets allow self-guided entry to the following:

U.S.S. Massachusetts

Climb aboard this ship and walk along its historic decks, both inside and outside. Of particular note is the display with the shrapnel damage the ship took on during the Battle of Casablanca in 1942.

Upon entry to the battleship, you will see the areas of the ship set up as they would’ve been in the 1940s.

U.S.S. Lionfish Submarine

The crest of the USS Lionfish- it is a royal blue circle with a white banner with USS Lionfish in black capital letters.  A lionfish is the center with another white banner, reading SS-298 at the bottom.

The U.S.S. Lionfish submarine allows you to tour the tight quarters of this naval vessel. See how sailors lived aboard this WW2 sub. (Note-if you are not a fan of tight spaces, this may not be for you.)

Tickets for Battleship Cove are available for purchase online. See the official website here. Current prices are:

Ages 0-3 years- Free
Ages 4-12- $15
Ages 13-65 $25
Ages 65+ – $23

This year’s (2025) hours are:

March 28-October 19 9:00am-5:00pm Daily
Seasonal hours apply October 19-March 27, call ahead or check website for details
