Zip Recruiter vs. LinkedIn-Save time and headache during your job search

Sponsored post, September 2020

Job searches don’t have to be painful.

We’ve all been through the stress, anxiety, hours poured over job listings, and never getting a response. It’s soul crushing!

What if it didn’t have to be stressful or take a long time? Using the right tools, you can easily find your perfect opportunity to elevate your career. The best part, you may already use the sites! I want to teach you the proper way to use both to accelerate your career search!

What is ZipRecruiter?

ZipRecruiter is an online job listing site, geared toward getting your resume out quickly.

You can search job postings in your area, create alerts for the jobs you want, and even request salary information anonymously!

When you request a salary, ZipRecruiter alerts the job poster that applicants would like more information. It is then up to the job poster to update their listing. However, they never know it was you who asked for the information. This gets past the taboo of asking for salary before receiving an offer.

ZipRecruiter also has a salary research tool, that will provide insight into what your skills are worth on an open market. What was the last time you knew your worth before heading to an interview!

Now, it has amazing tools for job posters as well! Your job listing doesn’t stay on just ZipRecruiter, it goes out to 100+ job sites which increases reach without any extra effort. The posting also matches your posting with candidates skills in their profiles. No wonder 80% of employers who post with ZipRecruiter find an amazing candidate within one day!

What is LinkedIn?

LinkedIn is a professional networking site. You can connect with coworkers, take trainings, as well as view jobs and apply. It also can passively alert recruiters that you’re open for new opportunities. The main focus is like an online resume.

LinkedIn can be best described as Facebook for careers. You can find a position and post jobs, but the main focus is creating discussion around careers.

How Recruiters Should Use Them

As a recruiter, you have your job posting and need to funnel as many candidates through as possible. To use ZipRecruiter properly, posting to this one place allows candidates to view the job at over 100 different sites, including on LinkedIn.

A recruiter should already have a LinkedIn account. This is usually the first step into the role of a recruiter. Your connections and keeping in contact with them is very important, as it will be easier to sway someone you know if you have the perfect opportunity for them.

How Job Seekers Should Use Them

You need both to properly search jobs. Use ZipRecruiter to find positions and create alerts to stay up to date on current postings. Use LinkedIn to have your most up to date resume, which can be found by recruiters.

I’d say LinkedIn is geared more toward active recruiters (looking for the direct hire) and job seekers looking to network. It isn’t really for job posters, BECAUSE LinkedIn is one of those 100+ sites that ZipRecruiter already posts to! Don’t waste your time as a hiring manager, just go right to ZipRecruiter.

Conclusion

With my experience, I applied to jobs through LinkedIn. It took me months to find a job! Had I gone out to a job board, like ZipRecruiter, I would have found a position faster. In the end, I was found on LinkedIn passively by a recruiter, and landed my newest job.

Whatever reason you have for wanting a new job, you need to do your search right.

First, sign up for LinkedIn for free and create your professional profile. It’ll come in handy to allow others to find you. Next, get your resume on ZipRecruiter to start sending to all of the positions you feel to be right for you.

I wish you the best of luck in your career search!

Very good blog! Do you have any helpful hints for aspiring writers?

I’m hoping to start my own site soon but I’m a little lost on everything.
Would you advise starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so many choices out there that I’m totally overwhelmed ..
    Any ideas? Thanks a lot!

Hi! I think it depends on if you are blogging for the creative outlet or trying to start a business from blogging. If you are trying to begin a business a paid option will most likely have more templates and a more professional looking site for you. 🙂 Good luck!!
