Dinner in 30 minutes or less is always my goal since my kids tend to go from happy to HANGRY in a snap. Tonight's meal plan is a family favorite-Biscuits & Gravy!

Start by browning the sausage in a frying or cast iron pan. You can use either the tube breakfast sausage or pre-made patties-whatever you have on hand. Either way you need to break it up like you would ground beef. I love using these spoons because they sit right on the side of the pan!

This recipe is so simple, but I make it that much easier by using pre-made biscuits. My favorite are Pillsbury Grands Flaky Layers (not an advertisement). You probably want to pop these into the oven once the sausage has browned.

Making semi-homemade meals like this are also a great way to get E involved in cooking, she loves it and I feel confident letting her make these independently.

Once the sausage is browned DO NOT drain the grease. Slowly begin to add in the flour about a 1/4 of a cup at a time. You are basically making the roux for the gravy.

After the flour is absorbed by the sausage you will begin to add the milk. Again, add it a bit at a time. Your gravy will look a little thin at first.

This was the perfect time for another independent cooking task for E. She also very proudly made our scrambled eggs- no shells this time!

Let the gravy cook over low-medium heat for about 10 minutes. It will darken in color and thicken. You can also add your salt and pepper at this time. I only add a pinch of salt since the sausage is already seasoned.

Meanwhile...

Serving suggestion:
Serve over warm biscuits with American cheese! We also like grape jelly on ours-don't judge, it give it a McGriddle vibe.

Can't forget to show you the beautiful eggs E made by herself! She was so proud. Let me know in the comments if you make your gravy differently where you are from!
