Valentine’s Day Math
Pattern Making
Use candy hearts, doilies or just cut out hearts from construction paper. Have children make AB patterns with different colored hearts.
Matching
Make your own, or use a printable matching game like this one available from Totschooling.net.
Graphing

Using my favorite curriculum material of the season…candy hearts, give each child about ten hearts. Have the students sort them by color and then graph the results. Check out this graphing lab that I designed for my Teachers Pay Teachers store! It has pages for data collection, bar graphing and even making a pie graph.
Alphabet Practice
*Use candy hearts to form different letters of the alphabet.
*Finger draw in a sensory bin of Valentine’s colored sprinkles
* Practice with these themed letter practice worksheets:
V is for Valentine’s Day
H is for Heart
*Form a letter of the alphabet with a friend
Practicing Kindness & Friendship on Valentine’s Day
Instead of focusing on romantic love during this holiday in the classroom, focus on the love we have for each other in the form of friendship! February is a great time to re-instill the classroom community principles you taught during the fall.
-Track kindness with this “Cold hands, Warm hearts” kindness tracker.
-Discuss and then write about how we can show our friends we care.
-Draw or write about something you love.
Let me know how you celebrate Valentine’s Day at home or in the classroom!
