Simple Beauty and the Beast Dinner Menu & Decor Ideas

In Disney World you can visit the Beast’s castle (of Beauty and the Beast fame) by eating at Be Our Guest restaurant in the Magic Kingdom. That’s just what we did for our sixth evening of our Disney staycation. Below I’ve captured our semi-homemade meal and table decor for a fun family theme dinner!

Beauty and the Beast Theme Night

Back in the early days of New Fantasyland in Disney World, Be Our Guest restaurant had a seperate lunch and dinner menu. There was no Prixe-Fixe menu that cost a million dollars. Lunch was quick service. Truly the ‘good ol days’. The menu for our theme dinner reflects the restaurant during that time.

Beauty and the Beast Dinner Menu

  • Croque-monsieur
  • Tomato bisque
  • Lefou’s Brew
  • The Grey Stuff

The Grey Stuff from Beauty and the Beast

The first thing I made was actually dessert! We used sugar cookies as the base to our Grey Stuff. In case you aren’t familiar, the Grey Stuff is a cookie and cream flavored mousse. Made famous from the line, “Try the Grey Stuff, it’s delicious!” in the “Be Our Guest” song in the movie. Using my favorite halfway-homemade cooking strategy, I used a cookie mix. I used this recipe from Magical Recipes for the Grey Stuff.

From the famous Beauty and the Beast song, "Be Our Guest", the photo shows a platter of sugar cookies with "The Grey Stuff" on top. The Grey Stuff actually is a light chocolate color with flecks of chocolate cookie crumbs in the cream. The platter is silver.

Croque-Monsieurs

As for our croque-monsieurs, I made simple hot ham and cheese sandwiches. To make it that much faster I used an electric griddle like this:

Next, I added honey mustard and tomato slices to our sandwiches, I came across this combination in college and never went back.

Tomato Bisque

Now the tomato bisque…otherwise known as Campbell’s Tomato Soup. Life is hard enough and we’re feeding an entire family…go for the canned soup. Something our house does to make the soup creamier is to add milk instead of water.

Lefou’s Brew from Beauty & the Beast

Last but not least, I wanted to make Lefou’s Brew. In the Magic Kingdom this is a complicated slushy drink with marshmallow foam and several other ingredients. Once again- mama doesn’t have time for that- so I went with apple juice and ice in a blender! Would’ve been fantastic too if I had known how to use our new blender. I didn’t set up the seal correctly, apple juice leaked e v e r y w h e r e. It even managed to drip into the water hook-up for the dishwasher and into our basement! Fun times.

Decorating for a Beauty and the Beast Theme Night

Let’s face it, this evening is less about food quality and more about the ambiance of the “restaurant”. This meant using a fancy (read: cloth) tablecloth and cloth napkins. I found this awesome enchanted rose centerpiece on Amazon too.

Photo of an opened rose under a glass dome like in Beauty and the Beast.

Then I did something unheard of and pulled out the wedding china. I have never once used it in the 12 years we’ve owned it. Isn’t it beautiful???

I still love it all this time later and it remained in tact after this meal, so maybe I’ll use it again in another 12 years.

Folding a Napkin into a Rose

As one final step I decided to learn to fold our napkins like they do in the actual Be Our guest restaurant- into the shape of a rose. Follow along below to learn how, it’s so simple!

  1. Fold napkin into a triangle

2) Starting at the widest end, roll tightly 3/4 of the way down

3) Roll the rolled portion onto itself like a cinnamon roll. Stop once you get past the triangle.

4) With the cinnamon roll as a base, stand the napkin upright.

5) Tuck the tail into cinnamon roll so it stays together. I drew this fantastic graphic to try and show you where to tuck the tail.

6) The point is now actually two points. Separate them by pulling apart and down. Tuck them around the cinnamon roll and turn it over- it should now look like a rose with two leaves on either side!

Six theme nights down…one left and I am exhausted from this past week.

Don’t miss our last staycation dinner! It’s a big one!
